Park View Story Lab
New Communities Initiative, Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, Washington, DC
2019
Brick & Story worked in collaboration with Ghost Note Agency, a DC-based digital media company and a partner on the New Communities Initiative project, to develop the Park View Story Lab, a year-long effort to collect and creatively share personal narratives from residents in the Park View neighborhood of Northwest, Washington, DC. While Ghost Note Agency provided support with the graphic design and exhibition panel development, Brick & Story developed the framework for the Story Lab, including conducting resident interviews/conversations and shaping the various narratives from diverse voices into a meaningful story and call to action.
The central theme of the Story Lab focused on the question of what it means to belong in the Park View Neighborhood. Residents from all walks of life, including several public housing residents, were interviewed. Stories were intermixed to compare and contrast experiences, mindsets, and values as a way to show that even though we may come from different walks of life, we are forever connected by our personal stories.
